Public Hearing on Amelia Island Tree Protection and Replacement Ordinance

Public Hearing on Amelia Island Tree Protection and Replacement Ordinance

The Nassau County Planning & Zoning Board wants community input on the revision of the Tree Protection and Replacement Ordinance for Amelia Island. Please visit the Amelia Island Tree Protection page linked to the Planning & Economic Opportunity page http://www.nassaucountyfl.com/886/Amelia-Island-Tree-Protection for the latest draft, the existing ordinance and a one-page fact sheet that summarizes the new draft. Note that an even newer draft may be posted in the last couple of days before the public hearing.

ATC has served on the working group Planning & Zoning Board set up to update the ordinance and has provided several iterations of input. The current ordinance has been difficult to work with and provides too little tree protection. We also have very different requirements in the Fernandina Beach and County parts of the island. This revision is a great improvement in that it provides greater protection and will move us much closer to having a consistent policy for the island.
