Homeowner Cautions

  • Learn about our environment on this barrier island before cutting trees or making
major changes in the landscape. Click Here.
  • Question insurance companies that demand tree removal or major trimming.
There are alternatives. Talk to the City arborist Dave Holley (904) 574-1215 or County Planning & Economic Opportunity staff (904) 530-6300 and consult with your insurance agent. Ask your agent to find you another company.
  • Request the credentials of any tree service that wants to trim or remove your trees. Many of us have tree service representatives knocking on our doors and insisting that we need to cut our trees. High pressure tactics should never motivate trimming or removing a tree. Any tree service you choose should be ISA-certified and you should be able to find them on the ISA website.

Tree Protection Regulations

* In the City of Fernandina Beach, a permit is required to remove trees 5 inches or greater DBH.
